REMOTE LEARNING

Remote learning refers to learning that is completed away from the physical school building. If there is ever a time that school cannot open due to bad weather or a wider school closure such as that of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we will revert to a remote learning plan.

At Canon Peter Hall School, we understand the need to continually deliver high quality education, including during periods of remote working, whether for an individual pupil,a specific  bubble or for the whole school. We recognise the importance of maintaining high expectations in all areas of school life and ensuring that all pupils have access to the learning resources and support they need to succeed. Our remote learning plan aims to ensure that children working from home continue to access the broad and balanced curriculum they would usually access in school. 

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD EXPECT FROM IMMEDIATE REMOTE EDUCATION IN THE FIRST DAYS OF A SCHOOL CLOSURE?

A child’s first few days of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a period of remote teaching. Initially, it is unlikely there will be any online learning instead paper materials will be sent home alongside reading books. The first day will be used by staff to plan learning activities that are appropriate for the range of learners in each class and ensure that these are accessible for individual needs.

WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT TO MY CHILD?

We will aim to keep the school day and timetable as close to normal as possible. Your child can expect to access teaching input from their class teacher or another familiar member of staff. We aim to teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible.  A range of approaches will be used including:

  • Live lessons
  • Pre-recorded online lessons
  • Pre-recorded online lessons provided on other webistes/platforms
  • Paper based activities and worksheets.
  • Websites to embed and practise skills taught previously
  • Daily reading which will be recorded on the Learning with Parents app

Classteachers will upload learning activities daily on Microsoft teams

HOW WILL WE SUPPORT ALL CHILDREN TO ACCESS LEARNING REMOTELY?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education

  • If there is an issue with access to a device to complete remote learning, please let us know immediately by contacting the school office.
  • We have a small bank of laptops that we may be able to loan on a short term basis as well as helping to resolve any issues with connecting to the internet.
  • Provide paper copies of the work which will be dropped off on a home visit.
HOW caN parents support their child with home learning?

We ask that parents support their child with their home learning by:

  • Ensuring that your child child is available to learn remotely at the times they would usually be in school.
  • Ensuring that your child completes work to the best of their ability and uploads it when completed.
  • Report any technical issues to the school as soon as possible.
  • Report illnesses to the school in the usual way if your child is unable to engage with remote learning due to illness.
  • Provide your child with a quiet, purposeful work space.
