welcome to reception

I am thrilled to welcome your children into Reception, whilst some of your children are continuing their journey through our school, many of them are just starting their adventures with us. Starting Reception is a big step, and I look forward to supporting your children to learn and grow every step of the way as we begin this wonderful journey of learning and discovery, as they explore new ideas, build friendships and grow in confidence.

We have an exciting year ahead full of new experiences, which will build upon your child’s learning and offer them opportunities to try new things. In Early Years, our curriculum follows 6 overarching themes (Local Landmarks, The World of Work, Seasonal Changes, My Life Right Now, Festivals and Celebrations and Eating Well), which will help your children to develop key knowledge, skills and vocabulary, which they will continue to build upon as they go through school. This year, we will be exploring seasonal change through hands on experiences and our visits to the school apple tree will support us to find out about how seasons affect the world around us. To support our learning around the World of Work, we will be inviting people from a range of careers into school to inspire children, which may include performers, police officers, fire fighters and other local heroes. Your children’s interests are key to our planning process within Early Years, so throughout the year we will engage with their interests and support them to further develop their knowledge and skills within these areas.

Each week the children will have home learning and reading to complete. These tasks can be accessed through Learning with Parents. We expect each pupil to read at least 3 times a week to help develop fluency, understanding and to help develop a love of reading. Please share your child’s participation with these activities by adding comments, photographs and videos.

I look forward to working closely with you to support your child’s development and make their Reception year a joyful and enriching experience as we nurture and celebrate their curiosity, creativity and kindness. If you have any questions or concerns at any point, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or one of the Early Years team.
